PROFILE OF THE NEW GENARAL MANAGER, PLANNING, NAPIMS

Mr. Marcel Ogbonna, Amu

 

 

Mr. Marcel Ogbonna, Amu is the new General Manager, Planning Division, NAPIMS.

He holds a Masters Degree in Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Benin, Benin City; and a Bachelors of Science and Technology Degree (B.Sc. Tech Hons) in Applied Geophysics from the Prestigious Federal University of Technology, Owerri.

Mr. Amu joined the services of NNPC in 1989 as a Field Geophysicist (Seismic Observer) and was posted to Integrated Data Services Limited (IDSL), Benin, a subsidiary of NNPC, where he was trained in both Nigeria and Nates, France on the operation and maintenance of Sercel instruments.

He rose from this position to become Senior Observer in several projects executed by IDSL. For instance, between 2001 and 2003, he was the Chief Observer/Instrument Engineering Manager at IDSL/UGNL seismic acquisition project in OML 98 and the chief Seismologist to IDSL/UGNL Joint Venture seismic crew (TOFMAN project).

In May 2007, Mr. Amu was transferred to NAPIMS as the Deputy Manager (cover), Geophysics, Joint Venture (JV) Oil Operations. After a star performance at the Chief Officers� Management Development Program in 2008, he became substantive Deputy Manager, Geophysics in 2010. By dint of hard work and commitment, he was promoted Manager, Exploration, JV Oil Operations in January, 2015. Here, under his able and inspiring leadership, he effectively galvanized his team, which became instrumental to the execution of high profile exploration projects like the TEPNG Ofon Phase 1 & 2 OBC seismic acquisition, SPDC Assa North Seismic Acquisition Project, CNL Okan 3D Seismic acquisition, MPNU Priority Area seismic acquisition, the successful TEPNG Etisan and Eben Exploration wells drilling, SPDC HPHT drill wells projects, SPDC Urban seismic Acquisition Projects and also SPDC Shallow Offshore OBN Seismic Projects in OMLs 79, 77 and 74 which is the largest seismic acquisition campaign in Africa (3,850 sq.km) and a host of other projects.

In the course of his career, Mr. Amu has served in various committees and made valuable contributions to the growth of NNPC. He was a member of NNPC Transformation Project, Project PACE phase 2 in IDSL and was part of the team that helped to establish a Marketing Coordinating Department and reorganized the ITC system in IDSL. As the pioneer Deputy Manager, Planning and Project Monitoring in IDSL Planning Department, he worked assiduously and served with other members of the committee that reviewed the IDSL strategic partnerships which led to high stakes for IDSL in all their partnerships and this tremendously improved the revenue profile of IDSL and for this achievement, he and his team received special commendation from NNPC Management.

This brilliant and committed officer was a recipient of NNPC GMD�s Award for outstanding performance as the best graduating staff in Class 050 (Golden Leaders) of NNPC Chief Officers� Management Development Program (COMDP) where he also won the Project Examiners Price for best in Project Writing, 2nd Runner�s- Up in Effective Presentation and GGM HR�s award for Best in Course Work. He is also a recipient of NNPC Benin Zonal safety award in the year 2000 for his outstanding contribution to HSE matters in the course of his job.

In addition, Mr. Amu is an ardent believer and supporter of the Nigerian content in the Oil and gas industry. As Manager, Exploration JV Operations in NAPIMS, he ensured that all processing and reprocessing of seismic data are done in-country. This singular action greatly discouraged capital flight and encouraged the development of indigenous capacity and capabilities

Mr. Amu is a consummate professional who has garnered robust Technical, Commercial and Leadership repertoire through Trainings, Conferences and Workshops, (both local and overseas) which have exposed him to current trends in the industry and has added to his preparedness for higher responsibilities in NNPC.

Marcel is an active member of the following Professional Associations: Nigerian Mining and Geosciences Society (NMGS); Nigerian Association of Petroleum Explorationists (NAPE); Society of Exploration Geologists, (SEG); American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG); He is a registered Geoscientists with Council of Nigerian Mining Engineers and Geoscientists (COMEG) and a certified Petroleum Geologist (CPG). He was the Benin Zonal Coordinator of Nigerian Association of Petroleum Explorationists (NAPE) from 2001 to 2005 and served within the same period as a member of the NAPE international conference and exhibition planning committee. He was honoured in 2016 by NAPE Benin Zone for his leadership roles in promoting and advancing the course of the Association.

His hobbies include Soccer, Badminton, Table Tennis and Charity works.

Mr. Amu is happily married with children
