TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE NIGERIAN CONTENT LAW

The Group Executive Director, Exploration and Production, NNPC Engr. Andy Yakubu has challenged the companies providing logistics services in the oil and gas industry to take advantage of the Nigerian Content law not only to expand their scope and capacity but also strive for global competitiveness in price and quality.

Engr. Yakubu gave this charge while undertaking a facility tour of some Logistics Companies in both Lagos and Port Harcourt. Amongst the Bases visited were Niger dock and Ladol in Lagos while Intels, Saipem and Grinaker-LTA were visited in Port Harcourt.

The GED expressed satisfaction with the capacity that have been developed by these companies some of which are wholly indigenous. He also commended the faith demonstrated by most of the companies in investing in the Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry well ahead of the passage of the Nigerian Content Bill into Law. Speaking further, the GED expressed optimism that such huge investments will yield commensurate rewards.

Responding to the request for additional jobs by the companies, the GED said that NNPC will do everything within its control to encourage the growth of indigenous companies. However, he stressed that there are laid down processes for contracting in the oil and gas industry which must be strictly adhered to. The companies visited by the GED provide services ranging from design, engineering, procurement, fabrication and installation. They also provide logistic support for cargo, vessels, barges, warehousing, project and personnel support and are internationally certified. They have been involved in most ongoing projects in the Nigerian oil and gas industry.

The GED took time to listen to their presentations and also undertook inspection of the various facilities available in the five Logistic Bases. He expressed deep appreciation to his hosts while encouraging them to strive for excellence.
