OLERO CREEK RESTORATION PROJECT COMMENCES MAIN FABRICATION ACTIVITIES

2010 was a very successful year for the Olero Creek Restoration Project (OCP). It started out in January with the celebration of 500,000 man-hours Incident and Injury Free (IIF). The year ended with over 830,000 man-hours IIF. NNPC Board approved the contract for award on 5 th of July and CNL awarded it to Saipem Contracting Nigeria Limited (SCNL). On the 1 st of September 2010, the project had its kick-off meeting with the main construction contractor, SCNL, where the contract effective date was set at the 1 st of October 2010.

Quite remarkably, within 2 months of the effective date the project team relentlessly and meticulously pursued the review of contractual deliverables and executed a chain of events that led to a brilliant and world class execution of the North Water Station (NWS) barge removal from the Olero Creek Production Facility to Warri. This is evident from the approvals granted the team by Chevron Shipping and Marine Warranty Surveyors.

On the 17 th of December, the project marked yet another significant milestone – the Commencement of Fabrication works on the North Water Station (NWS). The event took place at the SCNL yard, Merogun Water side, Warri.

In attendance were the JV partner representatives Messrs Akin-Britto and Patrick Okoh from NAPIMS (JV Oil Facilities) and both CNL and SCNL Company representatives. Speaking at the occasion, Tunde Momodu, the Project’s Construction Manager said: “both the Chevron project team and the SCNL team have collaborated effectively to make the project a reality”. He enjoined both teams to keep up the tempo and forge ahead in the coming year as one big happy, IIF and result oriented. Mr. Akin-Britto of NAPIMS commended the CNL project team for their commitment on the project.

He said that this was the first event of its kind he had ever witnessed on any project. He encouraged CNL and SCNL to continue to work relentlessly and abide by the project schedule and budget until the successful completion of the project. The SCNL Project Manager, Liberatore Massimiliano said he was pleased with the professional conduct and the IIF focus of the project team and is eagerly looking forward to an even more prosperous 2011.
